We are all aware that we should not smoke, that when in the sun, we should cover up or slap on the sunscreen and that many natural and synthetic compounds are harmful and can give rise to cancer. Using topical examples, this seminar will give a brief introduction to DNA damage and mutations, including a brief description of the different types of mutations as well as some examples of how mutations can affect biological functions and how external agents can cause DNA damage.
